5 Things to Consider When Choosing Telescopic Props

In slab and formwork applications, telescopic props are among the most critical pieces of equipment, safely carrying the weight of fresh concrete until it sets. Choosing the right prop directly affects both site safety and productivity. We recommend paying attention to these five points.

1. Working height and adjustment range

The closed and extended lengths of the prop should match the slab height of the project. A prop working in the middle of its adjustment range carries loads more evenly than one working at its limits.

2. Load capacity

Slab thickness, formwork weight and working loads should be calculated together, and prop spacing should be determined according to this total load. Capacity values must always be checked against manufacturer data and the relevant standards.

3. Compliance with standards

For telescopic props, TS EN 1065 is the key reference for dimensions, materials and strength. Props manufactured to standard deliver predictable and safe performance on site.

4. Adjustment mechanism and locking pin

The threaded body, adjusting nut and locking pin are the most heavily stressed parts of a prop. Before each use, make sure the nut turns freely and the pin is present and undamaged.

5. Surface protection

Concrete, moisture and changing weather leave steel vulnerable to corrosion. Hot-dip galvanizing or paint coating extends the service life of the prop and maintains safety through repeated use.
